This itinerary includes morning activities with enough down time to spend as a family to relax, schedule a birth and/or family meeting, plan your time and activities for a personalized family experience. Flexible to add days before or after the group itinerary to include more travel and activities.

8:15am – Meet at hotel lobby. Introductions and orientation.
9:30am –Transport to San Antonio Aguas Calientes (@20 min from Antigua). Enjoy traditional folk dance presentations from the Ninos con Bendicion – an after-school support program.
This is a presentation of traditional dances and marimba music with an opportunity to meet, dance, and cook with the children in the program. Some visitors forge meaningful connections with the youth that last for years. Their presentations are designed to generate funds for the children to stay in school while also maintaining their cultural roots. The dance group is made up of 30+ children ages 4-18 from families that are economically challenged in the village of San Antonio Aguas Calientes (20 min from Antigua). After the children present a few folk dances you will learn to make (and eat) traditional Guatemalan tortillas.THIS IS A VERY INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE. Opportunity to shop for textiles and homemade crafts. San Antonio Aguas Calientes is known for its intricate weaving. Most of the local weaving are made by the mothers who sell on consignment.
Proceeds from all sales go directly into the education fund.

9:00am – Departure from your hotel for a driving tour of Antigua.
Learn about the history and Modern cultures of Guatemala and visit some ruins around town.

9:00am – Transport for Panajachel via the ruins of Iximche – the first Capital of Guatemala after the conquest. Iximche is still an active Mayan ritual site. http://www.grupoquepasa.com/iximche-more-than-just-another-mayan-site/
Visit the ruins with your bilingual guide then continue to your hotel in Panajachel (“Pana”). Afternoon at leisure.

8:30am – Bilingual guide will meet you at the hotel to take a boat ride on Lake Atitlan to the village of Santa Cruz where you will spend the day hiking, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, relaxing and more ! All equipment and activities as per USA safety standards. Enjoy a family style lunch. All activities are centrally located. Parents can relax with a book while your child is safely expending energy (Bring bathing suit, sandals and change of clothes. Towels provided.)

* July 20 / August 13 (Sun) / August 24 / Nov 23 – Thursday / Boat tour and visit to village of San Juan de Laguna
8:30am – Bilingual guide will meet you at the hotel. The day begins in Pana where you depart for the west end of the lake. From your boat, see the villages of El Jaibalito, Santa Cruz, Tzununa, San Marcos, and San Pablo as you make your way along the north shore. Your destination is San Juan where you will spend approximately 2 hours on a guided walking tour (easy saunter – local transport available if requested). Visit art galleries, two woman’s weaving cooperatives, and/or a medicinal and curative plant garden. Several famous painters are from San Juan so you can also visit their galleries to see them at work. Women Weavers and Nuestra Artesania includes demonstrations showing how the beautiful fabrics are made; from harvesting the cotton, to spinning it into yarn, dying the yarn, and then creating one of-a-kind fabrics with the back strap loom. The Qomaneel center is a medicinal and curative herb garden operated by the midwives of San Juan. You are guided through the garden and given samples of each plant along with a description of its curative powers. There are no entrance fees at the cooperatives. Your gift purchases or donations are how these centers function. Families (and kids) have found this day to be one of the “highlights” of their itinerary. Interactive, cultural, fun. * July 21 / August 14 (Mon) / August 25 / Nov 24 – Friday / Return to Antigua via Cave of San Jorge
10:00am – Transport from Pana to Antigua via Caves of San Jorge –
The caves are @ 10 min up the road from Pana. Visit this sacred Mayan site where rituals are still performed by the local shamans. It is a short hike over uneven terrain to the caves and a spectacular view of the lake.
Your driver will stay with the vehicle and your luggage as you will continue to Antigua, arriving mid afternoon.

Cancellation and No-Show policy:
Any changes to your itinerary made while traveling in country are subject to extra charges.
No refunds or credits may be available.
* No refunds will be guaranteed if cancelled 90 days or less before the beginning of your planned itinerary.
Cancellations made more than 90 days in advance may receive a full or partial refund minus a service fee.
Management and responsibility: Guatemala Reservations and Travel Assistance (GRTA) acts only as an agent and neither GRTA nor any employee or appointee nor any other person, party or organization or agency collaborating with it is or shall be responsible or liable for any injury or loss, accident or damage, delay or deviation or curtailment, howsoever caused or arising or the consequences thereof, which may occur during any part of the travel or program or during such free time as persons may elect to spend independently on tour; except to the extent of GRTAs direct negligent acts or omissions. GRTA reserves the right to make changes to the itinerary if it is in the best interest of those traveling due to unforeseen circumstances.
Cancellations must be submitted in writing (email); the date such notification is received and by Guatemala Reservations and Travel Assistance (GRTA), is the cancellation date. In the event the passengers fail to travel because of an event of force majeure, including but not limited to, war, terrorism, or threats of terrorism, State Department advisories, strikes, bad weather, natural disasters, loss of luggage, etc., GRTA will not guarantee any refund but will work with participants if there are any costs that can be refunded.
